Book Description
When Nula’s husband James becomes forgetful they put it down to the stress of his work. But his behaviour becomes more erratic and inexplicable, and he is eventually diagnosed with Pick’s Disease, early onset and aggressive dementia. Their lives change from comfortable middle-class creatives through the shock of diagnosis, coping with the ongoing illness, not coping with the illness, to the indignities of care home life. The Longest Farewell is a moving description of James’ utter mental and physical deterioration, and the effect that it had both on him and on the people from whom he was involuntarily retreating, particularly Nula. Her life is completely taken: her frustration at trying to cope, her guilt at handing over his care to professionals, are just part of her at times harrowing story. With seemingly little to do but wait for his death, Nula meets Bonnie, another resident at the care home suffering from the same condition. In turn she meets Bonnie’s husband, the broadcaster John Suchet and the similarity of their positions becomes a bond between them. After the deaths of James and Bonnie, and some guilt-induced false starts, Nula’s story takes a bitter-sweet turn: they become partners, and eventually marry. The Longest Farewell is a heartfelt yet inspiring account of dealing with dementia, and of unexpectedly finding a happy ending. “Moving, heart-breaking and terrifying. But best of all, from beginning to the best of endings, it's a book about love.” – Sally Magnusson

Book Description
Equip yourself for life. There is a deep connection between obedience to God and experiencing life as He intended. But godly living only happens when we’re equipped with His word. The book of Deuteronomy holds insights into this truth, and a parallel for believers today. As the Israelites prepared to live in a culture with radically different values, Moses shared both the pitfalls of disobedience, and the power found in following God. This study examines Moses’ remarkable thoughts on personal obedience, and explores how we can equip ourselves to experience God’s best in our lives. Part of Dr. Warren W. Wiersbe’s best-selling “BE” commentary series, BE Equipped has now been updated with study questions and a new introduction by Ken Baugh. A respected pastor and Bible teacher, Dr. Wiersbe shares that godly living requires thoughtful preparation. Filled with practical insights and fresh perspectives, this study will encourage and equip you to live a life pleasing to Him.

Book Description
Noted Washington, D.C. pastor and teacher Msgr. Peter J. Vaghi offers a simple introduction to Catholicism blending sound Catholic teaching with scripture, the wisdom of the saints, literature, and personal anecdotes to offer a synopsis of the faith suitable for lifelong Catholics and inquirers alike. Vaghi deftly explains how this oldest of the Church's creeds is not only a summary of Catholic beliefs, but an invitation to entrust oneself to God. Twelve chapters corresponding to the twelve articles of the Creed offer a fast-paced tour of the Catholic faith, with particular attention to sometimes neglected aspects distinctive to Catholicism. Questions for reflection and prayers are included for group and/or devotional use. The inaugural book in the Pillars of Faith series, The Faith We Profess: A Catholic Guide to the Apostles' Creed is an ideal resource for RCIA groups, adult faith formation, and Catholics of all ages wanting to reflect and pray on the meaning of their faith and to deepen their commitment to Christ and the Church.

Book Description
Nancy Robinson Flannery has done a fine job of editing these unabridged letters. They make poignant reading and are a reminder that even heroes suffer the same doubts and frailties as the rest of us.' (Elizabeth Dean, Australian Book Review, June 2000) Dark-eyed beauty Paquita Delprat, 17, first noticed the dashing Douglas Mawson, 27, at a function in Adelaide in 1909. By the end of 1910 they were engaged to be married. The only cloud on the horizon was Douglas's impending expedition to Antarctica. He expected to be away for fifteen months, but they did not count on the disastrous trek from which he staggered back, alone and close to death, to find that the waiting Aurora had given up and steamed away only hours earlier. Douglas was stranded for another full year, and the lovers' endurance was stretched to the limit. Long months intervened between ships to and from Antarctica. Letters from Douglas arrived in two batches, delivered twenty-two months apart. In one letter Paquita wailed, 'This everlasting silence is almost unbearable . . . ' The longer the lovers were apart, the more doubt, anxiety and despair crept into their correspondence, and the reader senses the growing strain on both sides. Touchingly, Douglas kept Paquita's letters all his life. Nancy Flannery first saw them in 1991 among the papers his Estate had entrusted to the University of Adelaide, and was intrigued to glimpse the emotional life of the austere explorer-scientist. Six years later, she found Douglas's letters to Paquita among private family papers, thus completing both sides of this romantic story.

Book Description
Imagine a book that has you sitting at the edge of your seat, turning each page, from cover to cover with breathless anticipation. Your heart pounds, your hands sweat, your mind wanting to know what happens next. Have you ever read a book that has you mused one moment to the next, and then breaks your heart and leaves you with tears streaming down your cheeks. Are you ready for a read so thought provoking that after reading it you are left changed forever. This is that book. Izz of Zia is the first novel of a three part trilogy that can be interpreted on two separate horizontal stratums: as an exciting, fantasy, action, adventure, or as a deeply spiritual saga. Izz of Zia is set in the First Age of the Noble Kings, in the Middle Era of the First Millennia, in the year one hundred and eleven, in the days of King Ozzdon, in the Empire of Xylenia, on the planet Zia. Betrayal from within threatens to tear a world that has lived in peace for thousands of years apart forever. This work is a multi-faceted writing that intertwines heartbreak with adoration, deceit with truth, betrayal with loyalty, creating a web in which two young heartthrobs that are as different as the east is far from the west learn the fathomless meaning of passion, devotion and true love. This is a book about a faith filled heart that wills to keep going no matter how many time it breaks, no matter how low life beats it down, no matter how close death comes to sweeping it under, hope rises from within. Prepare to be inspired by a love whose story begs to be told, and refuses to be denied no matter how painful, tragic, or tear-jerking.
